The Ribeira Collection Hotel, the first hotel from Piamonte Hotels, a brand owned by asset management company OCRAM, has officially opened.

The Minho region hotel is the result of a €1.1 million investment on refurbishing the former Hotel Ribeira in Arcos de Valdevez.

The hotel comprises 33 rooms and four suites, a restaurant, two bars, one of which is the 1880 English Bar, an indoor vertical garden, spa and garden access to the Rio Vez river.

Up until the 1990s the Ribeira’s restaurant was considered one fo the best eateries in the region, famous for its codfish dishes.

The hotel is expecting to capitalise on the growing interest from foreigners in regional tourism. The picture postcard village is only 14km from one of Portugal’s most stunning natural parks – Parque Nacional Peneda-Gerês, is 50 km from the Spanish border and its closest Spanish city of Valença and 98km from Portugal’s second city Porto.

Arcos de Valdevez is in the north of Portugal in the Viana do Castelo district and has a number of churches and monuments dating from medieval times and the birth of the kingdom of Portugal including the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda.
