Latest poll gives AD record lead over PS
The gulf between Portugal’s two main political forces has never been so wide according to a latest poll from Pitagórica for Jornal de Notícias/TSF and TVI/CNN.
It shows that the Aliança DemocrátIca (PSD/CDS-PP and Partido Popular Monárquico) is on track to pick up 35.6% of the vote in the forthcoming General Election on March with an advantage over the PS Socialist Party of 8.7% which has 26.9% in the poll. So far, an estimated 15% are undecided.
That said, it seems unlikely that the AD will gain a majority in the Portuguese parliament even if it does a deal with the Iniciativa Liberal (IL) given that the IL has seen its intention to vote fall to 6.6%.
The other parties have not seen a significant change in terms of intention to vote with Chega at 16.2%, Livre (3.9%), CDU (3.1%), BE (2.1%), and Pan (0.9%).
Portugal’s election campaign will officially kick-off this Sunday.
