Qatar’s Artemis Education to open international school in Alcântara

A Doha-based education group, Artemis Education, has earmarked €75 million to open The Lisboan International School which will open in September at the former Massas d’A Napolitana factory in Alcântara. Lisbon.

The iconic and listed industrial building dating from 1908 is currently being completely refurbished and renovated while protecting the original façades, by the studio of Portuguese architect Frederico Valsassina, while the building is being carried out by San Jose Construction and consultancy from Engexpor.

The school has been in the pipeline since 2021, but the precise details were only divulged on Thursday with an additional €25 million on the investment initially foreseen.

Covering a total area of 11,500m2, the campus is designed to cater to 1,200 pupils but will open with between 150 to 300 students.

The premises will have classrooms, science and technology laboratories, art and design rooms, dance and music studios, a 170-seat theatre, sports areas and a gym, refectory, leisure areas and co-lesson rooms.

The Lisboan International School has an open enrollment policy catering to pupils from three to 14 years of age but will later receive students up to 18.

The school’s principal will be Gudmundur Hegner Jónsson who has led schools such as Dulwich College (Seoul, South Korea) and UWC Red Cross Nordic in Norway.
