IMT property transfer tax rakes in €734.9 million for municipal councils Jan-April
Revenues from property transfer taxes soared 42.6% to April, bringing in €734.9 million in the first four months of 2025.
Data from the budget execution to April shows that revenues from the Imposto Municipal sobre Transmissões Onerosas (IMT) have gone up MoM and have generated around €220 million more like-for-like on 2024.
IMT is levied on the purchase and sale of real estate, regardless of whether it is new or used. It is also due when there is an exchange of property, granting of usufruct or assignment of the buyer’s contractual position or in divisions and shares.
According to budget execution data, the IMT (which is municipal revenue) generated €209.9 million in revenue in January, a figure that increased to €374.2 million by February. By the end of March, the accumulated value for the year had already amounted to €568 million, increasing to almost €735 million by April.
