Lisbon Metro reduces debts to €19.8 million in 2024

The Lisbon Metropolitan posted losses of €19.8 million in 2024, down €4.1 million on the €24 million loss it posted in 2023.

Turnover stood at €132.3 million, a decrease of one million euros (or 0.7%) compared to the previous year.

The 2024 Activity and Budget Plan (ABP) estimated that the company would invoice around €135.4 million, but the actual amount was below this estimate by €3.2 million (-2.3%).

“2024 was a challenging but decisive year for the Lisbon Metropolitan, marked by significant advances and the overcoming of challenges that reinforced our role as one of the core pillars of urban sustainability in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area”, said the President of the company, Maria Helena Campos in a message that accompanied the results.

EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was negative by €5.8 million, €57.600 lower than the year-on-year figure. Compared to the 2024 AOP estimate, there was an improvement of €3.5 million, according to the financial report published on Monday.

Lisbon Metro carried 176.7 million passengers in 2024, up 6.5% on the previous year.

Operational revenues increased 3.5% from 2023-2024 reaching €150.7 million. Expenditure on staff (1,573) exceeded €102 million, and €169 million in operational expenses, exceeding the 2024 budget by 5.6%.
