After investing in real estate, private equity management company Bondstone has now turned its attentions to another type of asset.

The private equity firm has just launched a €50 million venture capital fund to invest in deeptech startups operating in sectors such as space, robotics, and defence. The goal is to build a portfolio of more than 25 startups, with investments ranging from €500,000 to €1 million.

Bondstone is a leading Portuguese real estate investment and asset management firm that has traditionally focused on developing sustainable residential and commercial projects with over €1Bn in assets.

Led by CEO Paulo Loureiro, the company targets high-net-worth individuals and institutional investors, recently launching large-scale projects like the €700 million Arcaya sustainable village in the Algarve.

This new business area for the company “emerges naturally” says Loureiro. “Bondstone started off in real estate, but our long-term vision has always been to create a benchmark investment platform in different alternative asset classes.

Venture capital represents the next logical step in this development,” says Paulo Loureiro, founder and CEO of Bondstone, in an interview with ECO/eRadar.

“We are currently witnessing a very particular moment in the world and in Europe. There is a combination of technological, economic, and geopolitical factors that are redefining investment in sectors linked to technological sovereignty, including deeptech.

We believe that this context is a unique market opportunity, which reflects our conviction that the coming years will continue to be defined by increased European investment in this sector, as the European Commission itself has been stating,” he continues.

“The creation of this new business area stems precisely from the conviction that the next European growth cycle will be profoundly marked by science-based technology and that private capital will play a decisive role,” he adds.
