BlueShift, which offers an innovative approach in hotel management and consulting, is planning to start its own hotel group.

The company currently has a shopping list of 20 tourism assets in Portugal worth an estimated €400-500 million.

The hotel and tourism consultancy is headed by Francisco Nogueira de Sousa who worked for Starwood Hotels & resorts for 15 years and was managing director of the Hotéis Real. He founded BlueShift in 2012 and in 2017 was awarded ‘Best General Manager for the Marriott Group in Europe’ and was a member of the Marriot Business Council in Portugal.

Among the Operations Services BlueShift offers are: pre-opening and operational plan, hotel management, re-structuring and turnaround, management in franchise, resort management, asset management, exit management, F&B Outlet Management, HR Management and others.

But it is their experience and expertise at restructuring and turning around insolvent hotels and resorts which is driving its ambitions to start its own hotel brand.

BlueShift has appointed a new partner, Italian Mario Chessa, who will join existing partners Francisco Nogueira de Sousa and Filipe Santiago (former CEO of Tivoli).

The hotels BlueShift are eying are spread out over both continental Portugal and its islands and include the Azores, Madeira, Lisbon, Porto the Alentejo, Algarve and Centre Region, particularly Coimbra in the last case.

“Instead of just doing hotel management, we could also own them, buying hotels with partners or renting them. The opportunities from the north to the south of the country are huge,” says Francisco Nogueira de Sousa, who started BlueShift with the aim of securing the management of independent hotels using a vision from professionals with experience in multinational hotel chains.
