A new online hotels reservations platform dedicated to Portuguese hotels and accommodation has been launched.

The site Click2Portugal.com has been up and running since 9 October as the first collective national hotels site exclusively for Portuguese hotels. Up until now tourists interested in booking hotel rooms in Portugal used platforms such as booking.com .

The platform was developed by GuestCentric and co-financed by the Competitiveness and Internationalisation Operational Programme.

The project is from the Portuguese Hotels Association (Associação de Hotelearia de Portugal – AHP) and already features 300 hotels and is available for all national hotels and the AHP’s 700 members.

The reservations platform Click2Portugal.com enables prospective guests to engage with hotels without the involvement of third parties and ensures “a higher net revenue for the hotels and the possibility of offering competitive prices to consumers.”

Raul Martins, President of the AHP said at the project’s unveiling in Lisbon that, “This is a strategic project for national tourism and is the largest joint hotel and tourism initiative of its type for the promotion and sale of Portuguese hotel rooms ever.”

He added that the project would satisfy a need in the market for a direct Portugal hotels reservations site and even a website for the hotel unit in question and will act as a complement to the hotels’ own specific reservations sites as well as reducing a dependence on internationally focused intermediaries. (like Trivago or booking.com).
