Portugal elected Best European Tourism Destination again!

Portugal has been elected the Best European Tourism Destination by the World Travel Awards for the third year running.
The award was announced at a ceremony on the Island of Madeira. The WTA Award was first attributed to Portugal in 2017, 2018 and again this year and consolidates international recognition of Portugal as a tourism destination and shows how the country is top of the list of international tourists’ preferences.
Portugal was up against Austria, UK, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
Overall, Portugal netted 39 awards (three more than in 2018 from the WTA.
But that was not all. The Porto of Lisbon also picked up the award of Europe’s Leading Cruise Port 2019.
In a tweet posted on 9 June, the World Travel Awards stated, “It is with great pleasure that we announce the Europe winners of the 26th World Travel Awards. Congratulations to the winner of Europe’s Leading Cruise Port 2019 – Lisbon Cruise Port, Portugal.”
And apart from these two awards, Portugal also picked up several others including Lisbon – Best City Break Destination while Madeira was elected Best Island Destination and the Passadiços do Paiva won the award of Best Tourism Development Project and Dark Sky Alqueva netted the European Award for Responsible Tourism.
Portugal’s tourist bureau Turismo de Portugal received the award of Best Official Tourism Organisation.
