A new health and wellness tourism project is to be developed near the seaside resort of Albufeira in the Algarve.

Marketed as a ‘luxury healthcare village,’ South Valley will be developed with money from international investors who will pump in €250 million in what will be the first project of its size in Europe with a special focus on health and sustainability.
Set on a 126 hectare site with a 84,300m2 construction area, it will integrate property components including single family homes and apartments, a hotel and leisure and health facilities interspersed by various garden areas.
In terms of the property component of the development, the largest in the region since the Ombria development near Loulé, 120 one-four bed apartments are foreseen as well as 52 houses.
In the health aspect of the development, there will be a private international university hospital campus, rejuvenation and detox clinics, rehabilitation, addiction treatment centre, nutrition and psychology clinics, two apart hotels, all with 24-hour medical assistance.
The power which will serve South Valley will be solar energy along with rain water runoff collection reservoirs and an organic waste treatment facility.
The 5-star hotel and spa will feature a restaurant and art gallery.
The development will also feature a biological farm which will support the nutritional aspect of the clinics.
In a communiqué, the project developers state that, “The idea of this development is to appeal to a segment that while growing and catered for, has nothing comparable in terms of the calibre of the premises planned at South Valley”.
“The ability to use an unparalleled quality health resort just 15 minutes from Albufeira and 40km from Faro airport will make it a unique development of this nature”.
The project is currently at its final planning phase and is still open to the participation of co-investors.
The project will be overseen by TOTE SER in partnership with international investors whose identity has not been divulged. The exact location of the development also remains confidential.
TOTE SER is a Portuguese developer with 25 years in the market and which conceives, develops and generates revenues from real estate asset projects. Its CEO is architect Helder Pereira Coelho.
