André Jordan at the American Club of Lisbon

The American Club of Lisbon (ACL) will present a LiveTalk featuring keynote speaker tourism developer André Jordan on Thursday, February 4, at 3:30 pm on ZOOM.

The ACL had originally planned an in-person session with the illustrious guest who is known in Portugal as the father of luxury golf resort tourism and in 2019 published his best-selling memoirs in Portuguese ‘A Journey through Life‘.
André Jordan is known as the father of Portuguese tourism, the father of quality tourism, and one-time largest real estate developer in Portugal. A Portuguese-Brazilian businessman of Jewish-Polish origin Jordan was the founder, creator and promoter of Quinta do Lago, Belas Clube de Campo, Vilamoura, among others, and is unanimously recognised as one of the most influential personalities in tourism worldwide. Many consider him responsible for putting the Algarve on the world map of tourism – in 2014, he was distinguished with the World Travel Leader Award, a reflection of his worldwide reputation.
His memoir is the account of his journey through an unusual life “with stages, departures and arrivals, people who get in and out of the carriage” where the author takes us to “unexpected places and introduces us to fantastic characters, armed with the serenity of those who saw and lived it most, without reckoning or heroic acts”.
A man of the world, an involuntary accumulator of nationalities and honours, André Jordan travelled trough different eras powered by his dreams, never taking his eyes off reality. Not being an academic, he lived and learned with brilliant minds, still acquiring the ability to combine intuition and deduction at a very young age. In describing the genesis and evolution of his projects, the implicit criticism of the financial system, the narrow-mindedness of those who control the money, the lack of preparation of decision-makers, is striking.
In 2014 he was considered to be one of the 12 most influential personalities in tourism worldwide.
André Jordan has featured on the cover of Essential Business, Forbes Portugal, Villas & Golfe and has received countless awards in Portugal and overseas for his contribution to tourism in Portugal and the Portuguese economy.
The developer was also presented with the order ‘Grande-Oficial of the Order of Rio Branco’ and with the ‘Tamandaré Medal of Merit’ in Brazil. In Portugal he was awarded with the ‘Order of Merit Grand Cross’ (1998) and conferred as ‘Grand Official of the Order of Prince Henry’ (the Navigator) (2005).
ACL President Patrick Siegler-Lathrop expressed the hope that “we will be able, later this year or early next, to have the opportunity to meet André Jordan in person, but under the current circumstances, we are obviously limited to an online event.”
André Jordan will share stories of his life experience and will also answer questions from the audience.
