Average Lisbon rent €1,235

The average cost of renting a flat in the metropolitan borough of Lisbon stands at €1,235 a month.

And it takes on average 91 days from the time an apartment is put on the market for rent until a tenant is found according to data published in a study ‘X-Ray of the Rental Market in Portugal 2021’ from Aluga Seguro.
This amount is slightly lower at €1,202 when the prices practised in the entire Lisbon district are taken into consideration when it takes 86 days to rent out a property from the time it comes onto the market.
The highest average rental price in Portugal is in the borough of Cascais at €1,511.
The average type of property for rent in Cascais (pictured) is a two-bedroom apartment with a floor area of 95m2. It takes around 97 days on average to rent the property out. Only 15% of properties in Cascais have a price tag that is below 35% of gross family income.
Regarding the city/district of Porto, (€936 per month), the average price of a property to rent is almost €300 less in comparison to Lisbon. Like Cascais, the average property for rent is also a two-bedroom apartment with a surface area of 85m2. On average it takes 85 days to rent out the property while 32% of properties in Porto have a pice tag less than 35% of gross family income.
The borough of Matosinhos is the only district in Porto with an average rental value over €955 per month where the average property for rent is a 2-bedroom flat covering 94m2 taking 63 days to rent out. Here 28% of properties have a rental price tag less than 35% of gross family income.
In the Faro district of the Algarve, the average rental price of a property is €825 per month. Here too, the average property that comes onto the rental market is a two-bedroom apartment with an area of 82m2. It takes 57 days on average to rent out the property from the time when it comes onto the market.
