Portugal’s dental tycoon declared “bankrupt”
Paulo Maló, Portugal’s millionaire dentist who revolutionised reconstructive dental surgery and implants in the country has been officially declared insolvent.
The personal bankruptcy was declared by a judge at Lisbon’s commercial and insolvency court Tribunal da Comarca de Lisboa at the request of bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) which has been trying to recover the debt for several years.
Paulo Maló had already lost his dental clinic empire which was sold to a fund, he then started another which has over 200 clinics all over the world but his lawyers say he earns nothing and has no material assets. Caixa Geral de Depósitos says it is owed €8 million.
In fact, according to the ‘Chapter 8’ decision, “from the research and diligences undertaken by the official receiver on 23 March 2021, it was found that there were no goods to seize and that the last income known and declared in October 2019 was for a total of €29,042,11.
