The President of Portugal’s Association of Real Estate Developers and Investors (APPII), Hugo Santos Ferreira, has been awarded the Excellence in Real Estate Award by the publication Construir.

In his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony, which took place on the 14 December at the Cine Teatro Capitólio in Lisbon, Hugo Santos Ferreira said that he accepted the award not for himself or for the APPII, but for all the professionals who, despite the pandemic, had worked hard to ensure that the sector continued to grow.
The Construir Awards recognise innovation, excellence, bold ideas and merit in real estate in Portugal. The awards are split into 24 categories, covering architecture, construction and engineering, without forgetting sustainability and building regeneration. The winners are selected in accordance with the results of a vote from subscribers to the publication’s newsletter.
“I want to say how much we appreciate the real estate professionals for their efforts and who helped the economy and our lives to move forward. At the APPII we have sought to do our work not such for our members, but for the whole real estate sector, and this is our commitment and why we have fought hard and will continue to do so for the sector,” he said.
Over the past five years, and in no small measure thanks to the work of the APPII and its members, Portugal’s real estate development and investment sector has enjoyed three record investment years of between €2-€3Bn and this year is on course to achieve around €2Bn of overseas investment despite the economic uncertainty and effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
