The luxury resort and real estate developer Vanguard is to turn Comporta into a renewable energy community.

It means that the resort will obtain around 80% of its energy needs for renewable sources giving the community up to 40% savings on its energy bills.
Terras da Comporta comprises 1,376 hectares of land with development plots at Torre, in Alcácer do Sal and Dunas in Grandola.
Vanguard Properties has formed a partnership deal with Energia Unida, from the Greenvolt Group to develop a decentralised energy production unit for the residential resort community.
According to José Cardoso Botelho, CEO of Vanguard Properties “the partnership with Energia Unida for the creation of the largest energy community in Europe is perfectly aligned with the values and the position of a real estate project that stands out because of its vision for the region’s development based on pillars such as mobility, innovation and environmental sustainability, linking people to their environments by a respect for difference and tradition”.
With the prospect of producing around 7 MW by installing 35,000 m2 of solar panels, this could be one of the largest energy communities in Europe with 80% of energy needs met by renewable sources.
Each house, hotel and commercial space will have solar panels installed producing energy for own use but also energy that can be shared with the community with cost savings of up to 40%.
