British School wins award
The British School Lisbon (BSL) was recognised by the British Embassy in Lisbon as one of the companies that has most invested in Portugal.
The school received the UK-Portugal Business Award due to its investment in its second campus at Belenenses in the Belém district of the city.
BSL announced in 2022 the opening of its second campus following an agreement reached with the football club ‘Os Belenenses’ on a 7,000m2 parcel of land located above the main stadium
BSL’s second campus will have state-of-the-art facilities with science labs, art, design and technology studios, music rooms, a theatre, indoor semi-olympic pool, and access to the sporting facilities at the football club itself. In all it will provide an integrated educational offer for up to 700 pupils, from 3-18 years of age.
The BSL was distinguished by the UK-Portugal Business Awards that publicly recognises the efforts and successes of British and Portuguese companies operating in both countries, some of which are also investors, making up part of a broader group of organisations supported by the UK Department for Business Trade ( DBT) in Portugal.
“This award recognises the ambitions of the BSL in creating a benchmark international school on a European level, with its pupils going on to enrol in some of the most prestigious universities. The agreement with Belenenses means that our school can grow and access spacious sports facilities”, says British School director Zoe Hubbard.
“With a group of students from more than 30 nationalities, BSL is a truly international school. We are very excited about the project for our second campus that will enable us to grow with an international education offer of excellence in the centre of Lisbon”, said Jessica Ordovas, director of the Schools Trust which founded BSL, and which has around 20 campuses in cities around the world including Asia, Europe and South America.
The British Ambassador to Portugal, Chris Sainty said at the awards ceremony held last week at the Ambassador’s Residence, spoke of his pride and enthusiasm at being able to once again recognise and celebrate the dedication and efforts of British and Portuguese companies that stood out for their success in their respective business areas, and their commitment to the British and UK markets.”
