Portuguese companies angle for Chinese deals and investment at Forum Macau
Around 600 companies from Portugal and Portuguese speaking countries around the world (PALOPS) headed for Forum Macau this week in search of business opportunities in China and South East Asia.
And there are others seeking to attract investment from these countries for projects back at home.
They were attending the Sino-Portuguese summit that ended on Tuesday in Macau. Portugal was represented by companies from four sector areas at the invite of Portugal’s overseas trade and investment bureau AICEP – Portugal Global, one entrepreneurs’ association, and a handful of companies.
The common denominator was technology applied in different domains such as health, gaming, and the blue economy.
Infinity Games was one of the Portuguese companies with a presence at the forum with a plan to open a games studio in Macau allowing it to publish games in China and the Asian market, in the same way it does in the US and Europe.
Hope Care, a Portuguese startup, has developed a solution that can monitor patients with chronic illnesses at a distance, also wants to focus and expand in the Far East and has already had several meetings in Macau.
Another company was Instroys, an industrial automation company founded in 2002, which has already developed projects in China, and is looking to open a branch or subsidiary in Macau and partner with other companies.
One entity looking to attract Chinese investment is Fórum Oceano, a cluster management body of Mar Português that is looking to attract investment for the blue economy in Portugal since it will grow to scale in several areas such as offshore renewables and aquaculture.
Also present at the forum were company representatives of the Associação de Jovens Empresários Portugal-China (Association of Portugal-China Young Entrepreneurs) and the textile company Knot. Portugal’s Minister of the Economy and ex-AICEP president Pedro Reis and current AICEP president Filipe Costa also attended the event.
