ANA to raise airport taxes in Lisbon alone
ANA, the company that runs Portugal’s airports, will only increase airport taxes in Lisbon.
It plans to increase taxes by 2.85% from next year, the equivalent to €0.45 per passenger, according to business daily Negócios.
Tax hikes at airports in the Azores and Madeira have been taken off the table. The increases have been presented to the airlines and now have to be approved by the National Civil Aviation Authority.
The concessionaire explains that in 2025 the authorised Maximum Average Regulated Revenue (RRMM) for airport taxes in the Lisbon group, which includes Humberto Delgado and airports in the islands of Madeira and the Azores, is €14.63 per passenger, but it is proposed “not to increase the regulated charges at the airports of Madeira and Azores, and only update charges at Lisbon airport so that the RRMM is achieved, which results in an increase of €0.18 (1.18% more) per passenger”.
But in 2023, ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal made a calculation error on the estimated increase, so to make up for this mistake, regulated charges at Lisbon airport will be 2.85%, or, €0.45 more per passenger.
ANA expects to see €69.5 million passengers at national airports in 2025, an increase of 17.8% compared to 2019, but only 2.1% compared to the €68 million it expects for 2024. Signs of slowing passenger numbers growth are most visible in Lisbon.
