US company Equinix invests €50 million in new data centre in Portugal
The US company Equinix, a digital infrastructure company enabling digital leaders to harness a platform to bring together and interconnect foundational infrastructures, has invested €50 million in constructing a new data centre in Prior Velho near Lisbon.
“Lisbon has the potential to become a dense and valued strategic centre and we’re pleased to contribute towards its growth and position ourselves as an anchor in Europe”, said Carlos Paulino, Managing Director of Equinox Portugal.
With the creation of LS2 alongside the existing LS1, Portugal has strengthened itself as a vital hub between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
The new building is slated to be inaugurated in June with the project creating 30 new highly-qualified jobs.
Portugal is now the anchor point for 11 submarine cables and is increasingly positioning itself as a key gateway to the digital future.
This will be the second data centre Equinix will have installed in Portugal in the same location, and is currently working on its third data centre for the Lisbon region which should be completed in 2027 with an investment of €100 million.
