ANA ready to coordinate building road accesses to the new Lisbon airport
ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, which manages Portugal’s airports, says that it foresees the “first meetings” with entities responsible for the third River Tagus bridge crossing, the TGV and roads and motorways that will coordinate and build the accesses to Lisbon’s new Luís de Camões international airport at Alcochete.
ANA — Aeroportos de Portugal (part of the Vinci Group) anticipates that ‘initial discussions with the developers and public managers over the accessibility projects’ for the future Luís de Camões airport will take place this year, as stated by the company in its 2024 management and accounts report.
A case in point, it says, is the third Tagus crossing, the railway connection with the city of Lisbon, the Lisbon-Madrid and Lisbon-Porto high-speed lines, as well as roads and highways, projects that it intends to start coordinating with the entities responsible for these accesses to the new infrastructure, entities such as Infraestruturas de Portugal and Brisa.
ANA also says that it will advance with an Environmental Impact Study for the new airport and a technical report that it will present to the government in July, 2026.
The company also states that it is “developing a master plan for Lisbon airport to reach a capacity of 45 movements per hour as determined by the Government”.
According to the accountability document, last year the capital’s airport recorded a growth of 5.1% in the winter months and 3.9% in the summer months, with ANA stressing that “there is less room for growth in the summer months due to the capacity constraints that occur in some of the main airports, namely in Lisbon”.
For 2025, it says, “despite some uncertainty caused by the economic and geopolitical situation, airport activity in Portugal is expected to continue to grow.”
In 2024 ANA SA posted net profits of €511 million, up 24% on 2023. The group’s turnover (it includes baggage handling company Portway) is around €1.3Bn, up 17.7% on 2023.
