Marriott International ramps up presence in Portugal with Delta Hotels by Marriott Açores
The US hotel group Marriott International has marked its expansion in Portugal with the opening of Delta Hotels by Marriott Açores – the group’s first hotel on the Azores archipelago in May.
The hotel, in Ponta Delgado on São Miguel Island, has 60 rooms, many with panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and volcanic landscapes, and was designed to afford guests with a relaxing environment.
For those on business, the hotel has versatile meeting and conference rooms for corporate events and other celebrations.
The hotel has an indoor heated pool, a heated outdoor pool, a spa, and a modern gym. The hotel has the Atlântico Grill & View restaurant focusing on regional cuisine with a modern twist and the Oceanic Bar & Lounge with views over the ocean.
Filipe Frias, General Manager of Delta Hotels by Marriott Açores, was enthusiastic about the opening of the hotel, which in his opinion, “represents not only a strategic step for Marriott International, but also a new premium hospitality proposal for those visiting São Miguel”.
This opening is part of a wider expansion plan from the hotel group in Portugal which has developed new hotels in the Algarve region with the Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Centre and the Westin Salgados Beach Resort, Algarve, in addition to a luxury resort in Sintra with an opening slated for 2026.
