McDonald’s Portugal franchisee receives prestigious international award
Jorge Azevedo, a McDonald’s franchisee for 30 years and currently responsible for nine restaurants in the Porto region, took to the stage at the Worldwide Convention (WWC) to receive one of McDonald’s most prestigious awards worldwide, the Fred L. Turner Golden Arch Award 2026. The WWC is a global initiative organized by McDonald’s, which took place from June 1 to 4 in Las Vegas.
In over 80 years, this is the 8th time a Portuguese franchisee has been among the winners of the Fred L. Turner Golden Arch Award, the highest recognition a McDonald’s franchisee can receive. This award is given to only 1% of franchisees worldwide every two years during the McDonald’s Worldwide Convention.
In addition to the rigorous and demanding standards that have always characterised Jorge Azevedo’s operations, throughout his 30 years as a franchisee, he has created a culture where people grow, prosper, and lead.
Many employees in the organisation have risen to prestigious positions within the McDonald’s Portugal System, and others have become McDonald’s franchisees and leaders, thanks to the training, discipline, and mentorship provided.
The World Cup is a global event, one of the largest in the industry, organised by McDonald’s, bringing together franchisees, suppliers, stakeholders, and employees of the brand worldwide.
In Portugal, McDonald’s currently has 45 franchisees operating more than 90% of the brand’s 220 restaurants in the country. McDonald’s franchising model is based on a strong partnership, lasting at least 20 years, with its franchisees, during which these entrepreneurs have access to ongoing support in various areas of the business.
