Discovery Hotel Management (DHM) is to build a new hotel in Ponta Delgada, on the Azores Island of São Miguel.

The new hotel, which will open in 2020, will be built on an area currently occupied by the Pêro de Teive shopping galleries next to the Azor Hotel owned by the same group.

The old shopping galleries are owned by ASTA, a company that manages the hotel assets of DHM in the Azores (Hotel Azor and Furnas Boutique Hotel). After an evaluation on the final aims of the project, the Discovery Fund has decided to turn the space into a 108-room hotel.

The new hotel will be a four-star unit but will operate as a complement to the existing Hotel Azor says Francisco Moser, managing director of DHM.

“We have a great capacity for the MICE segment with the Hotel Azor while the new hotel will be aimed at catering to the congress and events market.”

Francisco Moser also revealed that the new hotel will have the latest technology offering guests to do their own check-in. The hotel will also have a “trendy” atmosphere with rooms aimed at different segments of the market.
