Vila Galé wins competition to transform stud farm into hotel
The Vila Galé Group has won the Revive competition to redevelop the Coudelaria de Alter stud farm in Alter do Chão into a historic four-star boutique hotel.
The hotel in the Portalegre district of the Alentejo now belongs to the second largest hotel group in Portugal which has a portfolio of 31 hotels in Portugal, Madeira and Brazil.
Its last hotel development project, the Vila Galé Collection Braga was opened in May this year on the site of a historic 18th century hospital.
The current project involves the reconversion and restoration of a horse stud farm, a building that is one of 33 properties within the REVIVE programme which is run by the ministries of the Economy, Culture and Finances with the cooperation of local municipal councils.
The Vila galé Group will be responsible for a large part of the Grade 1 listed building with the exception of the Casas Altas. The concession contract for the Coudelaria will be signed in the autumn.
The Vila Galé Group has 31 hotels including the Vial Galé Albacora in Tavira, the Vila Galé Ampalius in Vilamoura, the Vila Galé Atlântico in Albufeira, Vila Galé Lagos and Vila Galé Cerro Alagoa (Algarve), the Vila Galé Cascais, the Vila Galé Coimbra, Beja, Braga, Ericeira, Opera (Lisbon), Estoril, Évora and several resort hotels in Brazil.
