The selection of the 85 candidates was the result of an international call for submissions which resulted in 100 applications. The selection procedure was down to Collectiva and was based on innovation and creativity.
From among the 85 jewellers selected, are those of 15 nationalities, including Japan, Korea, China, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, UK, Italy, Turkey and Greece.
The display will feature heterogeneous creations in terms of inspiration, design and the materials used. As the founding platform designers explain, “Collectiva was founded as an inclusive project with a mission to promote designer jewellery as a form of artistic expression which together with the manmade nature of these creations results in one-off pieces that are unique but at the same time are accessible to the general public.
We also wanted to demystify the notion that bespoke jewellery is a niche product. The creative diversity that we are presenting at this exhibition show that contemporary jewellery has pieces for all tastes.”
“While as designers we regularly take part either individually or collectively at international fairs and events where we have contact with designers from all over the world, we want Collectiva Meeting to become an annual event, a meeting point for contemporary designer jewellers, where artists get the opportunity to showcase their work while at the same time rub shoulders and share experiences”, say the organisers.
Apart from the exhibition with pieces for sale, the selected designers will also be awarded various awards. The platform has invited a panel of specialists to award the “Collectiva Meeting Awards”, whereby three brands will be invited to join a gallery-shop for three months as well as the “Portojóia Award”, which will recognise and select from 8 to 10 brands to be featured in the Collectiva Meeting stand at Portugal’s main jewellery fair which runs between 27 and 30 September.
