New UK consul for Madeira and Porto Santo Islands
The British Embassy has appointed Louisa Blandy Moreau, as the new British Honorary Consul for the island of Madeira and Porto Santo.
Louisa is no stranger to Madeira as she was born in Funchal and is part of the Blandy family, known for their Madeira wine production.
Her initial education started in Madeira but then carried on in the UK. She came back to live in Funchal permanently in 2007. She is involved in the family business and carries out the role of Property Manager at Palheiro Village, Palheiro Nature Estate.
Louisa took over from Joy Menezes, who retired at the end of September 2018 after 13 years of service. This is an honorary role with the main purpose of supporting the Consular Portugal Team with cases on the island where it is important to have someone on the ground.
The Consular Team in Portugal deal with a variety of issues and in the last year provided assistance to 394 British nationals. They also issued 677 Emergency Travel Documents for those who either lost or had their passport stolen. They have also supported the work of the Embassy on exiting the EU especially around Citizen’s Rights for British Nationals in the EU.
