TAP transports 15.8 million in 2018

Portuguese carrier TAP transported 15.8 million passengers in 2018 – an increase of 10.4% (1.5 million) compared to the same period in 2017.

The company highlights growth on European routes that saw 932,000 more passengers carried than in 2017. Within Portugal the airline carried 1.1 million passengers on internal flights between Lisbon, Porto and Faro (+9.4%).

Flights between Portugal and the Azores and Madeira saw the greatest relative growth with 1.3 million passengers, +156,000 on 2017.

In terms of African destinations, TAP carried 1.1 million passengers, a growth of 11.2% on the previous year.

There was also increased growth to the United States and Canada (+9.6%), totalling 800,000 passengers in 2017 as well as more passengers flown to Brazil (+7.8%) with 1.7 million in 2018.

And after the CEO of TAP Antonoaldo Neves having admitted that 2018 was shameful in terms of punctuality, figures for January 2018 were more positive with 78% of flights leaving and arriving on time.

At Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport 81% of flights were on time despite weather problems caused by fog over five days.
