Talkdesk, the third Portuguese startup to attain ‘Unicorn’ status, is to open a new 24-hour support centre and contract 50 extra staff in Porto.

Founded in 2011 by entrepreneurs Cristina Fonseca and Tiago Paiva, Talkdesk already has an 80-strong team of staff.
“Customer service is a priority for us so that we can focus on our customers in the best way and ensure that we are the living embodiment of our corporate message” says the company’s Managing Director Marco Costa.
Talkdesk specialises in the development of software based in cloud for call centres. Marco Costa says that its customer base has grown “quite sharply” which is why it is investing in the new support centre which will be officially opened in May.
The current investment is to set up a customer help line which will operate 24-hours a day, seven-days a week to ensure “quality response in meeting demand and to complement existing support services.”
Porto was selected for the new department since Talkdesk already has an office in the city with a team of 80 staff to which 50 more will be added.
In October 2018 Talkdesk became the third ‘Made in Portugal’ Unicorn after Farfetch in 2017 and OutSystems in 2018.
The company was founded by Tiago Paiva and Cristina Fonseca who achieved a financing round of US$ 100 million and is now worth an estimated US$1.2Bn. It was the Portuguese company that made it to Unicorn status in the shortest time.
