Co-living project for Beato

Startup Lisboa, a Lisbon City Council initiative to support startups, has launched a tender for companies to present projects for a co-living space at a startup centre in the east of Lisbon – the Beato Creative Hub.

The co-living space will be managed by the incubator and applications of interest must be presented for the project by 30 June while concrete proposals must be delivered by 8 September.
The co-living project will be housed in the ‘Edifício do Relógio/Former Convent of Beato,’ a historic building that is part of the former Military Maintenance factory with an area of 4,000 m2.
The idea is that the proposals develop a “shared accommodation space for short or medium term use” and should be out-of-bounds to local accommodation and tourism agencies, but rather people connected to the innovation community in the incubator.
The proposal should include accommodation units with different typologies and areas with the characteristics, fixtures and appliances for shared residential use as well as additional service provision.
The entire cost of the refurbishment works and management of the area will be down to the developer with the qualifying investment covered by the monthly rents over a 20 year period, automatically renewable for five years to a maximum limit of 30 years.
The Beato Creative Hub in the former premises of a military maintenance building within a former Portuguese Army complex that has around 20 buildings in all spread out over 35,000 m2, is part of a wider urban rehabilitation project in the Beato neighbourhood of Lisbon with the co-work and co-living spaces intending to contribute towards the urban rehabilitation of the area and for employment and company creation with the focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
