Plans are materialising for a new Lisbon Congress Centre for large-scale international events.

The news was released by the Prime Minister, António Costa at a lunch debate organised by the Portuguese Tourism Confederation which was held on Monday in Lisbon.
Mr. Costa said in his speech that he expected that “very soon” Lisbon “will have the conditions materialise a project that has been desired for a very long time, that had been called for regularly, and now finally meets the conditions to advance.”
“We have arrived at that difficult phase, but at the same time the easiest which is choosing who takes their share of the responsibility needed in order to achieve this objective.”
António Costa said that the new Lisbon Congress Centre would be built next to the present trade fair site FIL at Lisbon’s Parque das Nações but that both funds and a lot of negotiations still lay ahead.
According to the Prime Minister, the announcement of a solution would be made by the Mayor of Lisbon before the end of the year.
