Startup Lisboa to build new premises
Startup incubator Startup Lisboa has made a tender call to construction companies to build its future creative hub in Beato, Lisbon.
The tender is for the renovation and refurbishment of an old bakery covering 7,000 m2 and will be open for tenders until 22 November.
The budget for the project is €5.4 million (plus VAT). The selection process for the building companies will be carried out by property consultants Savills and Macedo & Vitorino e Associados.
After the first evaluation phase, up to 10 companies will be shortlisted which will be asked to put forward proposals which meet the overall technical and design specifications set out to refurbish the building which will house the startup incubator.
The tender timetable and detailed technical descriptions have been posted on the Startup Lisboa website from today (Monday) while more detailed specifications will be made available in the second phase of the process.
It is expected that works on the building will begin at the end of the first quarter of 2020 and be completed within one year.
The €20 million Beato Creative Hub will be located in the former premises of Military Maintenance Workshops belonging to the Portuguese army comprising around 20 buildings on a 35,000 m2 site.
It is hoped that the renovated buildings will contribute towards the urban regeneration of the area, create employment opportunities and attract companies focused on innovation and entrepreneurship.
The project was first mooted on 9 May 2016 when the ministries of Finance and National Defence made the site available to Lisbon Municipal Council for €7.1 million for a maximum period of 50 years. The project was formally presented to the public in June 2017.
Works to renovate the site began around two years ago: the first to move into the site will be the residents of Factory Lisbon which will occupy 11,000 m2 of the 35,000 m2 available area and work on which has already started.
This year Startup Lisboa made a call for tender for projects for a co-living space in the Beato Creative Hub and which is managed by the incubator.
