Troia Golf, an 18-hole 36 hectare golf course on the coast near Setúbal with stunning views over the Serra da Arrábida, has been voted among the Top 10 most ecological golf courses in the world.
According to ‘The Golfscape Blog’ what sets the golf course apart from most others is its biodiversity. It has more than 60 animal species living on the land covered by the course.
Troia Golf also recently won eight place in the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe 2019’ by the magazine Golf World and this latest designation only adds to Portugal’s award as the ‘Best Golf Destination in the World 2018 for the fifth year running at the World Golf Awards 2018.
And in 2011 Troia Golf was elected as one of the best golf courses in the world by Rolex.
Considered one of Portugal’s most engaging and challenging courses, this par 72 golf course alongside the beach designed by US golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr is located between the River Sado Estuary and Arrábida Hills.
Robert Trent Jones Sr selected hole 3 of Troia’s golf course as one of the best he has ever designed and included it in his list of ideal 18-hole courses.
In other golf-related news, the Algarve was voted the best golf destination in the world last month for 2020 by IAGTO (International Association fir Golf Tourism Operators) because of the recognised quality of its golf courses and the region’s hospitality.
