A Portuguese family company has become a market leader in producing kitchen and household cleaning accessories made from a high percentage of recycled ocean plastic.

Fapil has launched an innovative range of household products developed from plastic recovered from the seas and hauled in from fishing nets.
Founded in 1975, Fapil was set up by Joaquim Teixeira who had arrived from Mozambique. At the time the company made brooms and tooth brushes from plastic. Today, the company is a reference in producing domestic hygiene and cleaning accessories and has an annual turnover of nearly €20 million and employs 130 people.
The new range called ‘Ocean’ has 35 products from brushes, brooms, buckets and storage boxes among others.
“We are developing more products for launch onto the market this year”, says Fernando Teixeira, CEO of Fapil. All of our products in this new range have at least 20% recycled ocean plastic combined with other recycled plastics and just a small percentage of virgin plastic,” he says.
He adds that the company’s aim is to reach the point where all Fapil products are made entirely from recycled plastic.
