Mota-Engil wins €636 million Mexico contract
The Portuguese International construction company Mota-Engil has won a €636 million contract in Mexico.
The contract, in partnership with China Communications Construction, will build the first phase of a new railroad infrastructure project.
The partnership will be led by the Portuguese giant (58%) on the project called ‘Tren Maya’ in Mexico and involves a 228 km stretch of new line.
The railway is to boost economic activity in five states in the south of the country – Tabasco, Campeche, Yutucan, Quintan Roo and Chiapas.
The construction company said that the fact that is had secured the contract shows its technical capacities seen in various countries around the world and strengthens its presence in the Mexican market and in the Latin America region as a whole.
“On achieving this relevant commercial goal in Mexico, Mota-Engil has reinforced the balance of its activities between the three regions where it operates and confirms the sustainability of its business and the commercial dynamic of the same in times of the pandemic”, the company states in a communique sent to the markets regulator CMVM on Thursday.
Shares in Mota-Engil rose 0.18% to €1.08 at yesterday’s trading on the Lisbon Stock Market.
