euroAtlantic offers TAP partnership

The CEO of special charter airline euroAtlantic has mooted the possibility of being open to discuss route sharing with TAP.

TAP, the national airline is facing a ground up restructuring plan which will force it to slash 25% of its routes.
Markets where the two airlines could cooperate are Africa, Central and South America and the Middle East.
Eugénio Fernandes, CEO of euroAtlantic Airways says that the company he runs is open to cooperating. He will be one of the speakers at an online conference on the future of the airline industry organised by Jornal Económico (JE) and the consultants BDC on 16 December.
The conference will include keynote speakers such as the CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, the chairman of TAP, Miguel Frasquilho and the Chairman of ANA, José Luís Arnaut.
Fernandes said, “In principle I am all for models of cooperation between airline companies that involve the combined offer of airline services provision with obvious gains in efficiency and diversity of products and services made available to passengers.
“In the adverse context faced by the airline industry, this cooperation could actually represent the survival of companies. A partnership between TAP and euroAtlantic would be a clear asset for both companies and we want to be part of the solution for TAP’s recovery and have the technical and operational capacity to take on commitments and design a project of cooperation,” said the CEO of euroAtlantic.
As to the routes in which the two airlines could “codeshare” Fernandes said, “the markets in which euroAtlantic could naturally help are Africa, Central America, South America, the Middle East, in particular flights to São Tomé e Príncipe and Guiné Bissau, and immediately since these are already routes on which we operate,” Eugénio Fernandes concluded.
