Government estimates 7.3% unemployment in 2021

The Portuguese government estimates that the unemployment rate for this year will reach 7.3%, above the 6.3% which was recorded at the end of 2020.

Forecast in the Stability Programme which was approved by the Council of Ministers on Thursday, the announcement was made on Thursday by the minister of Finances, João Leão and has been reviewed downwards from the previous forecast of 8.2%.
The minister said that unemployment rate had been reviewed downwards because of the “return of the working population to work who would contribute to economic activity returning to normal.”
