The number of trips overseas taken by people resident in Portugal fell to its lowest level of the decade by 41.1% last year.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the introduction of more restrictive mobility measures, particularly in November and December, as well as the need for up to two weeks confinement in many destination countries, put many people off travelling.
Last year, a total of 14.4 million trips were made according to the latest information released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). Reports about the data did not specify if the trips were just through Portuguese airports or also land and sea border points.
National trips fell 35.7% while overseas trips fell 78.1% (after they had risen by 9% and 24.7% respectively, in 2019).
