Garland with new logistics centre
The logistics company Garland is to expand its activity with a new state-of-the-art logistics centre in Gaia near Porto.
The new centre is expected to up business turnover by around 40%, create 100 direct jobs and 200 indirect jobs in a project that is the first logistics centre in Portugal that is on course to achieve BREEAM certification for New Construction.
The centre will cover a 38,000m2 in a €30 million investment that will enable the Garland Group to grow.
The Portuguese logistics company of English origin is one of the oldest shippers in the world having been founded in the late 18th century.
The Garland Group’s Garland Logistics is dedicated to warehousing, distribution and e-commerce. The company has a warehousing area of 91,500m2 spread out over six premises from the north to the south of Portugal (Maia, V.N. Gaia, Aveiro, Mealhada and Cascais).
Through this investment, it will increase its capacity to 129,500m2, one of the largest warehouse facilities in the sector.
Planned for a parcel of land covering around 100,000m2, the new logistics centre is well situated at Arcozelo between the A44 and A29.
“At a critical time for Portugal’s economy which seeks to cushion the effects from the pandemic, this significant investment in expanding our logistics activity shows our confidence in economic recovery in the medium term. We are proud of this project, not just because of its size and visibility, but also from the jobs that it will create and its contribution towards boosting the economy in the region,” says Ricardo Sousa Costa, director of the Garland Group and CEO of the Logistics area.
