Foreigner demand for houses in Portugal falls 11%
The demand for housing in Portugal by international relocaters and investors fell 11% in the first half of 2021 compared to H1 2020 according to data from the online property site ‘Imovirtual’ published today.
Brazilians continue to head the list of countries in terms of sales for the period (22.8%%) followed by France (19.3%) and Germany (13.4%).
However, Brazilian demand fell 8.1%.
The greatest interest by those looking for property in Portugal via sites came from Switzerland (13.9%), the US (11.8%) and the UK (10.5%).
Buying options are the most sought after by both Portuguese and overseas citizens, with particular demand for detached houses which are the preferred choice for 22.8% of foreigners and 14.9% of Portuguese, followed by apartments. (15.8% foreigners and 12.8% Portuguese)
In terms of location, Lisbon (23%) Porto (19%), Braga (16%) are the three most sought after regions to buy property.
