Tourist overnight stays up 287% in November
Portugal’s hotels and guest houses registered 3.6 million overnight stays in November 2021, which was an increase of 287.7% on the previous month.
October has also enjoyed a 137.7% increase in overnight stays. The figures were released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). All told, around 1.5 million guests stayed in Portuguese hotels and guest houses — an increase of 265.5% compared to October 2021.
However, compared to November 2019, the number of guests was down 17%, and nightly stays down 12.4%.
In November 2021, the INE reveals that the domestic market contributed with 1.3 million nights, while overseas markets totalled 2.3 million. Compared to November 2019, there was a fall in both in the number of nights spent by domestic tourists (-3.4%), and non-residents (-16.6%).
As to revenues registered at tourism establishments, these reached €211.6 million in total, and €153.4 million regarding rooms. Compared to November 2019, total revenues fell 8% and on rooms 7.5%.
The average income per available room (RevPAR) stood at €30.4 in November (€42.8 in October). The average income per occupied room (ADR) reached €75.2 in November (€83.9). In November 2019, the RevPAR was €32.1 and the ADR €70.
