SWORD Health acquires software unit

SWORD Health, the Portuguese startup that created the first digital solution for the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, had acquired Bright Technology’s software development unit.

The acquisition will strengthen its engineering and product team to achieve the expansion and growth plans of the Portuguese unicorn which is led Vírgilio Bento.
The company also plans to take on over 150 professionals in engineering and product for the Digital Health area.
Jorge Meireles, VP of Engineering and SWORD Health, said the strategic purchase of the Bright Technologies software development unit was vital for the company’s expansion and growth need to develop solutions that are increasingly more disruptive in the health area”
SWORD Health closed a Series D financing round of US$189 million which means that the Portuguese startup has now been valued at US$2Bn, making it the unicorn which most quickly achieved unicorn status.
