Leão starts 2022 with a budget surplus
The Portuguese Minister of Finance says that the Government started 2022 with a budget surplus of €1.8Bn euros in the public accounts.
In January Portugal’s public administration finances enjoyed a surplus that was €1.08Bn euros more than in January 2021.
“This improvement is a result of a growth in revenue (+17.3%) which exceeded expenditure (+1.1%) states the office of João Leão in a communiqué, adding that the strong growth in revenues reflects a good period for both the economy and employment”.
The Government is working towards getting the deficit down to 2.9% for 2021, below 2%in 2022, and a balanced budget by 2023.
