Merlin to build data centre in Lisbon
After starting construction on its first Data Centre project on the Iberian Peninsula, in Álvara, Spain, Merlin Properties intends to start three projects in Spain and Portugal.
The Spanish real estate company expects to get its projects in Madrid and Barcelona approved within the next few weeks . The data centre planned for Lisbon should advance in the autumn of this year.
In Lisbon, the data centre will be built in Vila Franca de Xira and in the short term will cover 33,000m2 with a further availability of 73,000m2.
The spaces will be run in a joint venture between Edged Energy, a subsidiary of Endeavour, with Merlin responsible for building and maintaining these new data centre property assets.
Apart from Lisbon, cities such as Sines has significant data centre projects: the town in the district of Setúbal was chosen to house the largest Data Centre project to date on the Iberian Peninsula – Star Campus with a 450MW capacity.
