Algarve expects 1 million tourists in August

The Algarve is expecting around one million holidaymakers in August with most hotels already fully booked reports the Portugal Resident.

According to Hélder Martins, the President of the Algarve Hoteliers Association, (AHETA) who was interviewed on SIC TV: “After two very hard years, this quick recovery is something extraordinary that we met be all very happy about,” he added.
In the report, Martins also emphasised the large number of returning tourists that he believes shows the Algarve’s ability to attract visitors coming back year after year.
“Usually you visit a destination, you’ve seen it and you move on to another. In the Algarve, if you ask tourists, there are many who have been to the Algarve before, and that it is a sign they love it”, he says.
Portugal’s political class is among those holidaying in the Algarve including Prime Minister António Costa, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as well as the President of Portugal’s Parliament, Augusto Santos Silva.
