Would-be King’s daughter to wed top lawyer

The daughter of the man who would be King of Portugal if the country were not a Republic, Dom Duarte, is to marry a lawyer from the prestigious law firm Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho.

The Lisbon-based law firm specialises in capital markers and mergers and acquisitions.
The engagement was announced in a communiqué which stated: “Her Highness and Infanta Dona Maria Francisca de Bragança, the Duchess of Coimbra and Senhor Duarte de Sousa Araújo Martins” were engaged and the engagement took place in Timor at the start of December.
Dom Duarte as pretender to the Portuguese throne as King of Portugal as a great-grandson of Miguel I of Portugal is currently the highest ranking member of the Portuguese Royal Family. He married on 13 May, 1995 with Isabel de Herédia, in the Monastery of Jerómimos
Duarte Maria de Sousa Araújo Martins was born in Lisbon on 14 May 1992, is a lawyer and senior partner at law firm Uría Menéndez – Proença de Carvalho.
He has a law degree for the Católica University and a Master of Laws (Banking and Finance Law) from Queen Mary’s College in London.
