The board at Sino-Portuguese international construction company Mota-Engil is to increase the number of its board directors from 15 to 17 and has invited the former Portuguese deputy prime minister Paulo Portas to join the board.

The information was sent to the Portuguese stock and securities market commission, CMVM on Friday with the news being broken by Jornal Económico the same day. Paulo Portas had already been on Mota-Engil’s international board since 2016.
The candidates for the period 2021-2023 will be voted on by shareholders at a meeting of the company’s general assembly on January 30.
The changes to the board structure follow changes to company’s administration after the President of the board, António Mota, and the President of the Executive Commission, Gonçalo Moura Martins stepped down from their posts to allow “a process of generational change” and indicated that Carlos Mota Santos, the nephew of António Mota, should take the helm at the construction company which operates in Europe, South America and Africa.
