Preparations for first edition of ‘Scaling Up’, the programme from Unicorn Factory Lisboa targeting scaleup startups, are being finalised for its launch at the end of January says the CEO of the incubator, Gil Azevedo.

According to Jornal Económico there are eight vacancies to be filled for the project launched by the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas in October last year, in a programme that already has 33 national and international and national scaleup candidates.
The result, despite there not being a like-for-like comparison since this is the first year of the programme, is extremely exciting according to the CEO of the unicorn factory based in Beato – a neighbourhood in the eastern part of Lisbon – for multimillion euro companies. “From our perspective, it is above what we had expected”, says Gil Azevedo.
“We had been expecting between 20 to 25 candidates for the first edition” he said referring to estimates given by the unicorn hub days before Web Summit.
The CEO of Unicorn Factory Lisboa also explained that there are very few scale-ups which is why “we are obviously very happy by the number we have, particularly the quality of the scale-ups,” he says.
