The Garland Group, one of the principal players in the Portuguese transport, shipping and logistics sector, saw its business turnover grow 13% last year on 2021 – more than in the pre-pandemic year 2019.

The company’s business turnover in Portugal was 89% of the group’s global turnover in 2022.
The company turned over €144.3 million, up 13% on 2021 and 21% on 2019. After a slight fall in 2020 of 18% like-for-like on 2019 because of Covid-19, 2021 was a year of exponential growth for Garland, which saw its turnover grow by 29%. The Garland Group posted annual average growth of 6.4% since 2019.
The lion’s share of the group’s turnover was obtained from its operations on Portuguese territory, at €129 million (89% of the total), with business volume in Portugal up 21% on 2021 and 31% on 2019.
“With close to €250 years in business, the Garland Group owes its longevity to financial solidity and its flexibility in adapting to challenging times, taking advantage of these to grow. We are an international company with the flexibility of a small one, which enables us to satisfy the specific needs of our customers.
“In the pandemic period we never stopped investing in our logistics premises and technological development”, says Mark Dawson, CEO of the Garland Group (Pictured).
Last year, the Garland Group registered growth in all areas of its business. Garland Logistics was the group’s company that most grew (14% on 2021) from €7.7 million to €8.9 million.
The group’s transport companies – Garland Transport Solutions and Garland Maroc transported 684,000 tonnes (+4% on 2021) and 1,170 tonnes by air, a growth of 11% on the same period.
Garland Shipping (Portugal and Spain) grew 1% one 2021, brokering 505 ships and shipping 55,000 TEUS.
The company announced in January that it had opened a logistics centre in Alcochete with 15,000m2 area and a capacity to move 26,000 pallets. The new centre enables Garland Logistics to increase its representation in the south of the country and even out its national coverage.
In 2022 alone, thanks to this new centre and the completion of a logistics centre in Valadares (Vila Nova de Gaia), the company increased its logistics capacity by 78%.
