Taga Urbanic invests €60M in Vila Nova de Gaia
The Israeli developer Taga Urbanic is to invest €60 million in luxury homes in the former Seca do Bacalhau building at Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto.
Founded four decades ago by Zohar Gafni and Ariel Chilkiyahu, the Israeli Group has developed around 50 real estate projects in Israel, the UK, Germany, and the United States.
The group entered the Portuguese market in 2018 in Porto where it bought four buildings for rehabilitation in the historic centre of the city.
In 2021, the director of operations announced that Taga Urbanic would invest in Gaia and Porto over the next two years.
The company currently has 19 real estate developments in Portugal at different phases of development which will create 2,000 homes over the next few years in Porto, Gaia, Maia and Setúbal.
One of the projects in Porto, on Rua Monte dos Judeus, is a residential building involving the restoration of a 100-year old residential building which will have 6 homes ranging from studio to two-bedroom apartments.
Another project, the Sal D’Ouro, will have 200 homes. Work on the project will start this month on the coast at Vila Nova de Gaia on land occupied by the old Seca do Bacalhau.
The project will have 31 apartments ranging from one-four bedrooms and areas of between 51-144 square metres, with private terraces and/or gardens and views over the sea and the River Douro Estuary natural reserve.
Completion of the project by the architects Ventura + Partners is slated for the first quarter of 2025. This building will mark the first phase of the €60 million Sal D’Ouro housing complex with 200 homes aimed at the middle and upper middle classes and foreigners interested in living by the sea in Portugal.
