Portuguese industrial sales fall 5.2% in August

Portugal’s industrial index posted a like-for-like reduction in business turnover of 5.2% in August although it was a 2.6% recovery on July.

According to data from the national statistics office INE, industrial sales registered a variation of -4.1% (-4.8% in July). The indices for the national and overseas markets contracted 3.5% and 7.8% respectively.
In other manufacturing news, production at Portugal’s largest car plant, Autoeuropa, will restart normal production on October 23 with 19 weekly shifts.
The information was released to employees in a round robin communiqué by the company on Tuesday.
Production will return to normal output levels after the restoration of car parts supply chains by the company’s logistics department, which had been interrupted by the August floods in the country that made them – Slovenia.
